Afterschool Staff

Program Objective:

To provide a high quality program that challenges each child to grow academically and socially/emotionally. We aim to cultivate each child’s inner abilities through age appropriate instruction, structured play, and consistent care.


Program Philosophy:

At Little Scholars Journey Afterschool Center, we provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for families entailing quality aftercare for after school and summer vacation. Our mission emphasizes creating an atmosphere that balances student learning, enrichment, physical activity, and free time in a comfortable environment.  The programs maintain clear policies and procedures and actively encourage and welcome open communication and parent involvement. We offer a variety of extra-curricular activities to provide your child with the opportunity to learn skills in writing, language, dance and much more.

Meet Our Staffs

Sandy Tan, Executive Director (Owner)

Sandy is passionated in teaching and values education. She taught high school math for over five years. She work with students one-on-one and in small groups. Sandy is very observant. She is able to differentiate her lessons to meet individual student's needs.

After having two children, Sandy has developed her love in working with young children. She decided to go back to school and study Early Childhood Education. Through her personal experiences in searching for a quality childcare center, that is when she decided to open her own center. Sandy is commited in making her childcare center a warm place for young children to grow, learn, and flourish. She believe all children can learn if the evironment is developmentally appropriate for the child.

Sandy holds a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Quincy University and a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois at Chicago.

Janeth Arrieta, Director

Ms. Janeth is our afterschool center director and started working with us since 2018.

Ms. Natalie, Assistant Teacher (Green Room)

Ms. Natalie is our Green room teacher assistant working with kinders and 1st graders. She has been working with LSJ since 2021. Ms. Natalie believes in providing children with a safe, engaging and fun environment so the children will learn and thrive on their own.She believes in guiding the children by directing them by being understanding, caring and loving towards the children.


Ms. Natalie has always been around younger children.She has experience being with children ranging from the ages birth through sixteen years old. In high school, Ms. Natalie was in Junior Achievement. She volunteered in the Kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms toteach them about their future careers.


Ms. Natalie is a mother of two, she has a daughter that is five years old and a son that is three years old. When she is not at work; she enjoys having family time by being active outdoors.
